Dear Rebels,
On March 4th, voters in the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community School District will consider a measure to increase the voted Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL) from $0.67 to $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The PPEL is a dedicated fund that can only be used for specific infrastructure and equipment needs within the district. These funds cannot be used for salaries, classroom supplies, or general operating expenses.
What can the PPEL fund?
✔️ School facility maintenance and improvements (HVAC, roofs, plumbing, flooring, etc.)
✔️ Bus and vehicle purchases
✔️ Technology and security upgrades
What the PPEL can NOT fund?
❌ Staff salaries
❌ General classroom materials
❌ Daily school operations
Why is this measure being considered?
School infrastructure requires ongoing maintenance and periodic upgrades to ensure safe and effective learning environments. The current state of our facilities are requiring increased funding to complete necessary projects and make long-term facility improvements.
How would this impact property owners?
If the measure is approved, the increase would be:
🏠 A home with an assessed value of $100,000 would see an estimated increase of $67 per year (or $5.58 per month).
What does this require to pass?
The voted PPEL requires a simple majority (50% +1) to be approved.
For more details on the measure and how it impacts our district, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for staying informed about our schools and district initiatives.

Yesterday Mailea traveled to the Des Moines Civic Center to attend a Stage Manager Workshop. There were many great tips and tricks shared to make a show run smoothly and we even got a tour of the building! Thanks to the IHSMTA and their educational opportunities.

Starbooks Cafe returned to 2nd grade!
Students enjoyed having time to "sip and read". All books in the Cafe had been recommended or chosen by the students the day before. This is one of my favorite traditions because I love to watch the students immerse themselves in books.

The week ahead for Rebel Nation
